At what horizontal distance between the target and the rocket should you launch?

As a science fair project, you want to launch an 850 g model rocket straight up and hit a horizontally moving target as it passes 31 m above the launch point. The rocket engine provides a constant thrust of 15.0 N. The target is approaching at a speed of 15 m/s. At what horizontal distance between the target and the rocket should you launch?

I was trying to use some of the kinematic equations to figure this one out, but I’m always missing some part to the problem or at least that’s what I’m thinking. Got any ideas?

need help with this math problem?

Blast Off math:

Two friends, Regina and Brenda, are members of the NASA rocket club but go to different schools. Regina goes to David East High School and Brenda attends Grad Gate High School. Each of their schools is having a competition to see whose model rocket can stay in the air the longest. Mr. Math helped the students construct equations that describe the height of the rocket from the ground when it has been launched upward from the roof of the school. The following are Regina’s and Brenda’s equations:

Brenda: -16t^2+40t+56
Regina: -5t^2+15t+8
T= seconds h= feet for brenda, meters for regina.

i need help doing this problem. any help is great. at least guide me in the right path. is this possible to graph? if so how?

How can I install Nitrous on a KYMCO Exciting 500? Web site?

I am thinking on Insatlling a Nitrous System on my Kymco Exciting 500. I know there is a video of one on a Yamaha TMax (European Model Only). Just want to blow the smart off’s off the road! Know of a good web site? Once a kid on a 600cc crotch rocket said; Nice Moped! I laughed out loud! He then realized his mistake and came up with a better smart a__ answer. Yeah that must be the Rools Royce of Mopeds! Need nitrous for those jerks! OH Yeah! That will be the end of his smart mouth when I go flying by him on My Bike. It’s a Bike,You Jerks, and it is more fun than any I’ve owned. I’ve had a Yam 1100, Honda 750, 450, 250, & 70cc.

Can you answer my question on Flowmasters on my Prerunner 2005 Tacoma?

Casual talk with a stranger lead to him suggesting me getting Flowmasters on my Tacoma. Did a search on Youtube and a Tacoma with Flowmasters sounded like a rice rocket. Can someone confirm this to be true/false? Or does it sound like a traditional muscle car/truck?

What is the suggested Flowmaster model kit to use, and what is the pricing for installation+kit?

Are there any benefits for this new exhaust system (i.e. improved gas mileage, pwr)? Or is it all for looks?

Your help would be great!

For model rocket hobbyists: has anyone launched liquid-fueled rockets?

I’m interested in model rockets as a hobby but launching with store-bought solid motors seems like so much kids stuff. I’m thinking that the fuel won’t be much trouble (kerosene, turpentine, maybe UDMH or straight hydrazine) but the oxidizer will be much trickier. I don’t want to handle cryogenic stuff (even though it’ll help pressurize the delivery lines) so I’ll stay away from LOX. Red or white fuming nitric acid sounds less hazardous. I’d like to hear from anyone who’s tried liquid fuels (even if it’s only on a test stand).

ROCKEt HeLp?

I’m fourteen and i’m really interested in rockets. I have been launching off the model rockets you can buy from hobby stores since i was 8. For a book report, i read the book October Sky and saw the movie. Now, i’m really interested in making my own rocket. Does anyone have any links or good book i can read to get to know enough about them to make a simple rocket? I’m really good at math and i’m a real good at science too. If you don’t have any links or any books that would really help, i can handle the equations, even if they’re for the nozzle. I was hoping i could make one out of metal…not just cardboard. Thanks in advance foryour help!
