  2. You might not want to push a kid that’s so young into that stuff

  3. NYC Director

Wait until the child is a year or so older. There is a lot of pressure, and being on a shoot is not the most fun thing in the world for a small child. Try it on a small scale. If he or she seems to like it, let that be your guide. Past that, I always like to say that if a kid has a little experience, by age 11 or 12, they should be allowed to decide if they want to do this for themselves.

  4. John Casablancas, I am not familiar with, but you should not have to pay for your child to be placed in anything. I’m always weary when they ask for money upfront. If you are only interested in modeling, that’s one thing but it sounds like you are starting to train your daughter for theater. If you want to know more about training for musical theater you can check out this website for kids… http://www.musical-theater-kids.com…and I agree with NYC director…let her make the choice. If she keeps bugging you to audition for things as she gets older then you will know if she really wants to pursue this.

  5. ** Don’t Give Them Money! **

The only thing a model needs is a portfolio with pictures. If this John is an agent and he wants her- he’ll make sure he puts out the money himself for photos. For agents, the models or actors they represent are an investment, they get paid when they get you work, and they’ll only want to represent you if they think they can make money off you that way (not by emptying your pockets for you to pay for modeling lessons, or headshots, or whatever else they’re trying to con you into).

Instead of paying for super expensive headshots, look at magazines and catalogue where four year olds model. Get her into a Sears or Walmart portrait studio and recreate some of the poses with different outfits and props. It’ll probably be cheaper than a “professional headshot photographer” and Much cheaper than whatever that John guy will charge you for pictures.

Also, she’s four- is it her, not you, that really wants to do this?
